1950 – Church millenary festival
When St. Andrew’s was being restored in 1903, builders discovered fragments of
six stone crosses.
In 1914, the archaeologist W. G. Collingwood dated these crosses to around 950AD.
So, in the 1950, the church celebrated 1000 years of religious worship at St.
Andrew’s, with what they called a “Millenary Festival”.
Between June 10

and 17

there were special church services, a pageant, and
various social events held at the church and elsewhere in the village.

The Sunday evening services was led by
past and present members of the choir.
